Farooq faces Sikh ire
By Our Special Correspondent
JAMMU, FEB. 5. The Chief Minister, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, today
faced the ire of hundreds of Sikhs at the Mehjoor Nagar Gurdwara
in Srinagar. The Sikhs had gathered to protest the killing of six
of their community on Saturday. Dr. Abdullah arrived along with
the Governor, Mr. G.C. Saxena, and a Central team led by the
Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers, Mr. S.S. Dhindsa.
The youth in particular turned violent when they saw the Chief
Minister arrive at the Gurdwara to extend sympathies to the
community. He was accompanied by Mr. Saxena, Mr. Dhindsa, the
Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Prof. Chaman Lal
Gupta, the Minority Commission Vice-chairperson, Mr. Trilochan
Singh, and senior BJP leaders Mr. Vijay Kumar Malhotra and Mr.
S.S. Ahluwalia, but Dr. Abdullah was singled out and not allowed
to enter the Gurdwara. However, his security guards, with the
help of elderly Sikhs, managed to help him in.
