National conference to highlight Netaji's ideals

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, FEB. 5.A two-day national conference to commemorate Netaji Subash Chandra Bose's ideals and his sacrifices will be held at the Lalitha Kala Thoranam here on February 17 and 18.

Dr. Anita Bose, daughter of Netaji, now settled in Berlin, will inaugurate the `Smruti Sammelan', as the conference is called, while delegates from across India besides personnel of the erstwhile Indian National Army (INA) from Burma, Malaysia, Singapore and Pakistan will participate. The Chief Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu, will be chief guest at the opening function.

Five heroes of the INA -- Col. Laxmi Sehgal, Col. G. S. Dhillon, Col. S. S. Yadava, Col. Arshad of Pakistan and Col. Janki Thevar -- will be felicitated at the function.

Addressing a news conference here on Monday, the Union Minister of State for Urban Development, Mr. B. Dattatreya, who is chairman of the reception committee, Mr. Katam Lakshminarayana, vice-president, All India Freedom Fighters' Organisation, and Mr. K.B. Tilak, chairman of the cultural committee, said the purpose of the sammelan was to infuse in youth the spirit of sacrifice, patriotism and discipline which Netaji embodied. Another objective was to revive the memory of freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the country as people today were becoming selfish.

Mr. Lakshminarayana said that Netaji would have prevented the partition of India if he had been alive at the time of independence because he had the moral courage to face any leader. They contended that ex-INA personnel coming here from Pakistan also subscribed to this view.
