DIRECTORY OF INDIAN BUILDING MATERIALS AND PRODUCTS 2000-2001:
Building Materials and Technology, Promotion Council and Centre
for Symbiosis of Technology, Environment and Management, 35, 17th
Main VI Block, Koramangala, Bangalore-560095. Rs. 1000.
IT IS necessary to have an updated database of the products and
materials available for the professionals to finalise
specifications for cost-effective options.
This directory is an attempt to fulfil the above objective by
providing relevant information including products, related Indian
standards and specifications and manufacturers in different
regions to serve as a single source of information. This
directory would have been more useful if the price list of the
materials as on a particular date had been furnished by the
manufacturers.
In the chapter on concrete, reference has been made to IS 456 -
1978 Code of Practice for Plain and Reinforced concrete. This
code has been recently amended and published in July 2000.
This revision incorporates changes. In order to introduce in-
built protection from factors affecting a structure the earlier
clause on durability has been elaborated and a detailed clause
covering different aspects of the design of the durable structure
has been incorporated. In addition many significant changes have
been introduced.
The general applications of the various products have been
covered well.
The existing scenario of key building materials and their long
term future demands have been discussed in depth.
The information contained in this directory has been incorporated
as furnished by the manufacturers/suppliers of the products. It
includes project range, potential applications in buildings
conforming to standards and specifications.
A list of some important product-wise technological innovations
made by research institutions backed by traditional knowledge
base has been furnished. This directory will be useful for all
those connected with building and infrastructure development.
