California adopts Punjab as friendship State

WASHINGTON, FEB. 16. The California Senate Committee has unanimously approved a concurrent resolution establishing friendship State relationship between California and Punjab.

California has already adopted Gujarat as a friendship State. Establishing friendship State relationship began under Eisenhower and has continued since. Among the States with which California has established friendship State relationship, apart from Gujarat and Punjab, are 20 countries including China, Mexico, Russia, Australia and Egypt.

The proposal to confer the status on Punjab, passed yesterday, was introduced by Mr. John Burton, president pro-term of the California Senate. He described Punjab as a progressive and dynamic State, which brought in the green revolution and later the white revolution.
