Mild tremors in Thiruvananthapuram
By Our Staff Reporter
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, FEB. 16. About 15 houses developed cracks
reportedly due to mild tremors which were experienced in the
Palachira and Ayiroor areas in Kallara-Pangode Police Station
limits in the district early today.
The tremors reportedly occurred around 5 a.m. and the cracks on
the walls were noticed later. Police inspected some of the houses
to verify the reports from the residents. Half-a-dozen affected
houses were in adjoining Kollam district.
Police said four or five cracks were found on the walls of the
tiled house of Mr. Basheer, a tea-shop owner, at the Pangode
junction. Some of the cracks extended from the foundation to the
roof.
However, the Met Director, Mr. V.K. Gangadharan, said no tremor
had been measured by the seismograph here nor by the KSEB's
instrument in Idukki. It was unlikely that tremors of such low
intensity could cause damage to buildings, he added.
