UTVi plans for e-shops based on IBM tools

By Our Corporate Reporter

CHENNAI, FEB. 17. UTV Interactive (UTVi), a subsidiary of the Mumbai based UTV, is planning to go for the second round of venture capital in the third quarter of this year to fund its expansion plans. The first round of funding for $2 million was done by Indus Venture Holdings last year, Mr. Biren Ghose, Chief Executive Officer, UTVi, told presspersons when he was here to participate in a e-tailing seminar held by IBM.

At the seminar, UTVi presented its knowhow using IBM tools and applications for supply chain management and e-commerce. Mr. Ghose, in his talk said, ``As a developer and manager of e- commerce platform, UTVi believes that IBM Web Sphere makes for an ideal platform to build an e-tailing business.'' TSN Shop, the UTV group's e-tailing enterprise, has accumulated substantial knowhow and developed it as an intellectual property by being an e-tailer even before the advent of the dotcom syndrome, he said.

Mr. Ghose said UTVi would be working with IBM in developing e- shops for others on IBM's Web Sphere. With a number of brick and mortar companies demanding an e-commerce platform and a number of online companies seeking a revenue stream, UTVi had prepared a series of e-commerce propositions that could straddle both large and small businesses, he said.

UTVi has its presence in India and Singapore and plans to expand its operations in other Asian countries and the U.S.
