Laurel Tech to set up development centre

CHENNAI: Laurel Technologies, providing training in e-commerce, wireless application protocol and Bluetooth, is establishing a software development centre in Chennai at a cost of Rs. 10 crores. Mr. Suresh Narayanan, vice president, said the development centre, focussing on wireless application, would take care of offshore projects and commence operations by April. The IT training division of the company has recently opened a centre in Chennai. It is also planning to set up 25 training centres by December.

Supertex Sarex ties up with Bayer AG

CHENNAI: Supertex Sarex, which deals in specialty chemicals and dyestuffs for the textile industry has recently entered into a strategic alliance with German International Bayer. The tie up will help the Indian partner to emerge as one of the largest distributors of Bayer products and will facilitate the return of Bayer to the Indian textile chemicals sector, according to a company release.

Ceeyes' development centre

HYDERABAD: Ceeyes Software Technologies, announced that it is opening a development centre in the first week of April in San Jose, U.S. This will add to its existing 60,000 sq ft facility in Hyderabad, said Mr. Sri Chaganty, President. He said a development centre would also be opened in Cebu, Philippines, to cater to the needs of clients based in Far East. Conexant streamlines GSM handsets

CHENNAI: Conexant Systems Inc has announced a new single chip radio frequency (RF) transceiver that streamlines the design of multi-brand global standard for mobile communications (GSM) handsets. By eliminating costly intermediate frequency conversion steps, the transceiver cuts the number of external components required to build a mobile handset by one third, significantly reducing the cost, size and power requirements of next generation GSM handsets, says a press release.

Kanika Info subsidiary bags order

KOLKATA: Kanika Infotech (Singapore) Pte. Ltd., a subsidiary of Kolkata-based Kanika Infotech, has bagged a major project to develop Skillscheck for the Singapore-based IT training company Fast Track Technology Pte. Ltd. Company director Mr. Lawrence Tham, said here that Skillscheck would facilitate HR managers to recruit right professionals for right jobs. - PTI

Siemens to buy U.S. modem maker

NEW YORK: Siemens strengthened its position in the high-speed Internet business in the U.S. with its agreement on Thursday to acquire Efficient Networks, a large maker of modems for fast Internet connections, for $1.5 billion in cash. Siemens will pay $23.50 a share for Efficient, which is based in Dallas, or 90 per cent more than its closing price on Wednesday. The acquisition is part of Siemens strategy of expanding in the U.S. ahead of its planned share offering next month on the New York Stock Exchange.
