M.P. Assembly adjourned again

By Our Staff Correspondent

BHOPAL, FEB. 23. The Madhya Pradesh Assembly was today rocked by noisy protests and the proceedings were repeatedly adjourned for the second consecutive day as the Bharatiya Janata Party members were in no mood to relent on the recent police firing at Palari in Seoni district in which one person was killed.

The BJP members have been demanding criminal action against the police officers responsible for opening fire on agitating farmers at Palari leading to the death of one person, said to be a BJP worker.

Some of them have also sought the State Forest Minister, Mr. Harbans Singh's resignation on this issue.

The House was adjourned twice yesterday, the second time for the entire day on this issue. This morning too the matter was raised vociferously by the BJP members soon after question hour.

The senior BJP MLA, Mr. Babulal Gaur even read out Supreme Court rulings to drive home the point that a judicial probe cannot be used by the Government as an excuse to prevent the arrest of a police officer.

The Speaker, Mr. Shrinivas Tiwari, responded to this by saying it is for the Government to decide whether or not to arrest a person. The leader of the Opposition, Dr. Gauri Shankar Shejwar, was up on his feet protesting against the Speaker's ruling and most of those from the BJP benches immediately rushed to the well shouting slogans.

In the midst of all this commotion, the House was adjourned briefly. When it met again, the BJP members continued their loud protests and the proceedings were adjourned till 2.30 pm.
