BJP condemns destruction of Buddha idols

HYDERABAD, MARCH 5.The BJP city unit, in a memorandum to the Governor, Dr. C. Rangarajan, here on Monday, expressed concern over the destruction of Buddha idols in Afghanistan by the Taliban regime.

The unit condemned the `act of barbarism' and said it was an act which did irreparable damage to the world heritage. Over 6,000 idols were being vandalised despite pressure from all over the world, it said and urged people to condemn such acts.

Dr. K. Laxman, deputy floor leader of the BJP in the Assembly, and Mr. Ch. Ramachandra Reddy, Hyderabad unit president, led the delegation.
