Naidu assures children of adequate teaching staff

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, MARCH 5. The Chief Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu, here on Monday assured children of better infrastructure and adequate teaching staff in all Government schools.

Interacting with a group of students drawn from various schools including those studying under `Back To School' programme he faced some pointed questions like "why should detention system not be continued".

"Are the opportunities in private and Government schools equal? Can AP achieve 100 per cent literacy rate like Kerala ? Why should not be there emphasis on social sciences which lent character to human beings ?" were some of the other questions posed by the students.

The Chief Minister said that social sciences were as important as any other subject. Computer education was no doubt needed, but excess dependency on gadgets from a young age was wrong, he added.

Mr. Naidu asked the people to realise that society progressed only when girl child was given education and made students appeal to the parents to do their bit in this direction.

Mr. Naidu was amused by the suggestion of a student that five-day week system should be introduced so that one day could be spent on doing homework and Sunday could be enjoyed as a real holiday.

He said the Government was introducing computer education in Government schools and through distance education and internet facilities and tele-conferencing better tutoring would be given to children. The Minister for School Education, Mr. K. Srihari, was present.
