Govt. following 'dangerous tactics', says HRF
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD, MARCH 5. The Human Rights Forum has alleged that the
Government is protecting a former band of ex-PWG militants to
counter the naxalite movement.
The State Government was following the `dangerous tactics' of
permitting them to operate under police protection, said Forum
members, Dr. K. Balagopal and Mr. S. Jeevan Kumar, at a press
conference here.
They gave some of the names of former militants turned criminals
as: Kathula Sammaiah, Jadala Nagaraju, Bayyapu Sammi Reddy
(Karimnagar district), Nayeemuddin (Nalgonda), Thirupati Balanna
(Mahabubnagar), Sileru Uppalaiah and Oddula Tirupati (Warangal).
They also mentioned the names of Pulla Reddy and Jaipal Reddy,
who were not militants but are part of `counter insurgent gangs'.
`All this is going on in a State led by a Chief Minister who is
reputed to be obsessed with development. Perhaps, this is the
ugly under-belly of development', the Forum leaders said.
They further stated that they moved in police jeeps or in their
own vehicles, barely concealing their weapons. One of them,
Jadala Nagaraju, had already been inducted into the police force
as a constable.
The Forum demanded the Chief Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu,
to expand the terms of reference of the proposed judicial enquiry
into the killing of APCLC leader, Mohd. Azam Ali, to probe the
nexus between the killers and police and the inactivity of the
police with respect to earlier killings of APCLC activists.
