Pritish Nandy granted bail

NEW DELHI, MARCH 9. Rajya Sabha MP and noted journalist, Mr. Pritish Nandy, was today granted bail by a city court in a case registered against him for allegedly abusing and threatening to slap a policeman at the Indira Gandhi international airport in July 1999.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Mr. V.K. Maheswari, granted him bail on a personal bond of Rs. 10,000 and with a surety of the like amount.

Police registered a case against Mr. Nandy alleging that he had on July 12, 1999, abused and threatened to slap an ASI, Mr. Ram Krishan, at the airport before leaving for Bombay.

According to police, Mr. Nandy in the security hold area had picked up the security clearance stamps from the counter and stamped those on his own without seeking permission from the officials posted there.
