Hindujas satisfied

MUMBAI, MARCH. 9. The Hindujas today expressed satisfaction over the report of the Hammond panel exonerating Mr. Peter Mandelson, former Minister for Northern Ireland, who is alleged to have helped the Hinduja brothers in securing passports.

``We welcome the thorough manner in which this matter has been investigated and trust that its conclusions will serve to put and an end to this issue,'' a statement by Hinduja family said here. ``The applications for naturalisation of G.P. Hinduja and S.P. Hinduja were handled properly and within established criteria,'' it said, adding ``the Hammond report confirms what we have maintained throughout''.

``There is no evidence of any improper relationship between Mandelson and the Hindujas or of any connection between his contacts between them over the sponsorship of the dome and their efforts to obtain naturalisation.''

Similarly, ``there is no evidence of any improper relationship between Keith Vaz and the Hindujas,'' the statement added.
