Qureshi chargesheeted

SRINAGAR, MARCH 9. Jammu and Kashmir police today filed a chargesheet against the former Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) leader, Hashim Qureshi, hijacker of an Indian Airlines plane in 1971.

The challan was filed before the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge, Srinagar, charging Qureshi with burning the Indian Airlines Fokker Friendship plane `Ganga' after hatching a criminal conspiracy. Qureshi was also charged with kidnapping and robbery under the Enemy Ordinance Act.

The Judge ordered extension of his remand till March 20 when proceedings in the case would begin.

Qureshi was arrested at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi on December 29 soon after he arrived from Copenhagen on his way to Nepal.
