Notice to MCD on school boy's death
By Our Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI, MARCH 9.
The Delhi High Court today issued notices to the Delhi
Government, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the city
police on a public interest litigation seeking prosecution of
officials responsible for the death of a Standard VII boy in the
collapse of a portion of an under-construction school building of
the Corporation in the Rohini area in North Delhi on February 23.
A Division Bench of the Court comprising Mr. Justice Anil Dev
Singh and Mr. Justice O.P. Dwivedi asked the three respondents to
file their replies to the petition by April 18.
The Social Jurist, the petitioner, urged the court to issue
direction for an adequate compensation amount of the deceased.
Mr. Ashok Aggarwal, counsel for the petitioner, a non-
governmental organisation, submitted that the Corporation was
liable for the death and compensate the victim's family
sufficiently.
He also urged the Bench to direct the police to register a case
against the `guilty officials' and contractor of the building and
the Corporation to conduct an enquiry to fix the responsibility
for the happening.
The Bench said that if any enquiry was conducted, its report
should be placed before them.
