How are Marakathipathis and yoga karakas determined in each horoscope?

FOR each of the 12 lagnas, rishis (seers) of yore have assigned roles for particular planets as Benefits, or Yogakarakas and Maragathipathis.

These roles are based on the lordships the planets have over the 12 Houses, counting forwards with Janma Lagna as the First House.

For instance, for Simha Lagna, Mars as Lord of 4th and 9th, is taken to be a favourable planet or Yoga Karaka. For the same Simha Lagna, Mercury as Lord of 2 and 11 is considered to be a malefic and also Marakathipathi. Based on received wisdom, Venus who owns 3 and 10 from Simha lagna is regarded as another Marakathipathi. The "a priori" principles are confirmed from experience.
