SSLC examination begins today

By Our Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MARCH 13. The SSLC examinations 2001 will begin tomorrow and end on March 29.

There will be 2,544 centres for the examination. A total of 5,76,668 students are scheduled to appear for the exam. Of this, 2,17,531 are boys and 2,38,613 are girls. As compared to the previous year, 11,998 more students are taking the SSLC examinations this time.

The valuation of the answersheets, spread over 48 valuation camps, will begin on April 5. Steps for the computerisation of the tabulation of mark sheets have already been completed at the Pariksha Bhavan. This time, along with the results, the marks scored by a candidate will also be indicated. The entry of marks, tallying, publication for results and the distribution of certificates will be aided by computers. The use of computers is expected to plug leaks in the marks secured by various candidates even as the tabulation is on and to reduce the time taken for the tabulation process.

While a three-tier security system has been put in place for the entry, tallying and tabulation of results, a five-tier system has been set up for the SSLC certificate which too will be printed on a computer. The computerisation process has cost the Government Rs. 16 crores. The DPI had issued necessary directions for completing the distribution of hall tickets by March 9. This time, duplicate mark lists will also be issued along with the publication of the results, which is expected to be earlier than in previous years.
