Telco sales up 11 p.c. in Feb.

MUMBAI, MARCH 13. Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company has reported a total sales of 15,597 vehicles in February, an increase of 11 per cent over January sales and ended the first 11 months of the year 2000-01 with a cumulative sales of 1.48 lakh numbers.

The company reported a sales of 5,291 medium and heavy commercial vehicles in February against 5,159 vehicles sold in January, an increase of 2.6 per cent.

With the launch of Indica V2 in February, the passenger car business unit registered a sales of 6,364 numbers in the month, an increase of 22.6 per cent over January and a cumulative sales of 63,052 numbers for the first 11 months of the current financial year.The new Indica V2 has met with an encouraging response with the February sales at 3,651 numbers rising by 23.4 per cent over January sales. Cumulative sales for the year stood at 38,573 numbers and the car is set to cross the one lakh mark this month.

Utility vehicle sales at 2,693 numbers also had a robust growth of 22.2 per cent over January with Tata Sumo becoming the largest selling brand. The limited edition Safari was sold out within a month of its launch with demand outstripping the 250 numbers that had been planned. Export sales for the 11 month period ended February were 12,396 (8,997), registering an increase of 37.8 per cent.
