Ohio University honour for Ratan Tata
By Our Special Correspondent
MUMBAI, MARCH 17. Mr. Ratan N. Tata, Chairman of Tata Sons,
India's largest industrial conglomerate, has been conferred an
honorary doctorate by Ohio State University.
The citation presented to Mr. Tata on Friday said, ``As head of
the century-old Tata conglomerate, he is responsible for
restructuring the 80-company group into a more competitive and
responsive 21st century global entity. His stewardship and
foresight have provided opportunities for a new generation of
foreign-trained Indian engineers and researchers to work for the
benefit of their native country.''
It said, ``Tata's commitment to state-of-the-art technology,
combined with a strong sense of business ethics and sensitivity
to the environment, has helped shape the face of modern India.''
The University has also honoured Mr. Hiroyuki Yoshino, President
of Honda Motor Company of Japan.
While Mr. Tata gets the honorary doctorate in business
administration, Mr. Yoshino gets the doctorate in engineering.
