The week ahead

THE Vernal Equinox occurs on Tuesday, March 20 at 13:32 Greenwich Mean Time. This annual celestial event marks the moment of balance between the light of day and dark of night. It also ushers in the three months of spring, which culminate with the zenith of the Sun at the Summer Solstice on June 21. The advent of Spring coincides with a New Moon in Aries on Saturday, March 25. Both the Spring Equinox and the Aries New Moon signify a rush of energy for new beginnings. This is the week to focus on your cherished wishes, goals, and dreams.

QUERIES ANSWERED

How is the time of birth reckoned? Is it the time the child is separated from the mother by cutting the umbilical cord or when the child emerges into this world from the mother?

M. Ramamoorthy,

Secunderabad-56.

THIS is a vexed question to which a variety of different answers is given by differing groups. Each group lists its own reasons for its belief.

The time of emergence of the baby's head, the first gasp or cry signifying the first breath, the complete coming out of the child, and the cutting of the umbilical cord are instances of such varying views. According to our ancient Rishis, in our present Kali Yuga the first contact of the child with an agent of earth, outside the mother's body, is to be taken as the correct time of birth for constructing the horoscope.
