Five charred to death as lorries collide
By Our Staff Correspondent
TUMKUR, MARCH 18. Five persons were reportedly charred to death
when two lorries caught fire following a collision between them
at Rangapura on the outskirts of Tumkur city on Sunday morning.
The cabin and engine of both the vehicles were gutted. The only
survivor in the incident, Mr. Jagadhish, said that Ramappa, the
driver of the lorry in which he was a cleaner, and two farmers,
who were transporting cucumber in it, were among those killed.
The other victims are believed to be the driver and the cleaner
of the lorry, which was carrying coconut.
The Tumkur Rural Police, who took up relief operations, were yet
to establish the identity of the two.
Smoke covered the accident spot till afternoon. Most of the
produce in both the lorries remained unaffected.
