A pictorial account of Cong. history

BANGALORE, MARCH 18. Kudos to Mr. R.V.Deshpande, Minister for Major and Medium Irrigation, who is also the Chairman of the Souvenir Committee of the 81st plenary session of the Congress.

Thanks to his efforts, a souvenir of about 500 pages was brought out to commemorate the first-ever Congress plenary of the millennium at Bangalore.

The souvenir has dozens of photographs depicting the events in the long and chequered history of the Indian National Congress.

A galaxy of eminent national and State leaders of the party have contributed interesting articles to the souvenir.

It also contains speeches of past Congress presidents, including those of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharalal Nehru, Subash Chandra Bose, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and others.

Mr. Deshpande, who presented the first copy to Ms. Sonia Gandhi, said that an interesting highlight of the souvenir was a host of pictures on the historic Belgaum session of the Congress in 1924, which was presided over by Mahatma Gandhi.

The souvenir also has pictures of Ms. Gandhi's visit to Maha Kumbh Mela in Allahabad recently.

There is also a collection of as many as 20 photographs of the meeting of the CWC on Friday and also the photographs of the inaugural session of the 81st plenary held on Saturday.

There was delay in the printing of the souvenir and the copies reached the venue only minutes before their release.
