Youth urged to opt for self-employment
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD, MARCH 18. The gross domestic product of the country
had increased from five to six per cent following implementation
of the new economic policy, said Dr. E.A.S. Sarma, Principal,
Administrative Staff College of India.
He was addressing the prize distribution function of the all
India essay writing competition organized by the Iqra Society for
Career Guidance here on Saturday.
He termed as a myth the belief that the new economic policy would
lead to widespread unemployment. Though there would be a
reduction in the number of jobs in the Government and public
sector, there would however be a boom in job openings for youth
in the private sector. The hallmark of the new economic order was
efficiency and competence, Dr. Sarma said and advised youth to
equip themselves for the challenge.
Mr. K.S.V. Krishnamachari, Managing Director, SBH, asked students
to go in for self-employment and entrepreneurship for which banks
were providing credit facilities.
The essay writing competition on "India's new economic policy -
implications for the youth" drew response from all over the
country. Some of the winners are: Messrs Nitin Mittal (Delhi),
Suresh K. Naid (Goa), Dr. Swanand, Sandeep Ramteke (Maharashtra),
Abdul Wahab Khan, K. Vijaya Bhaskar, Manoj T. Thomas, Ms. Aparna
Avasarala (A.P) and Dr. Hidayatullah (Gujarat).
