Warrant against Quattrocchi extended

By Our Legal Correspondent

NEW DELHI, MARCH. 19. The special court for CBI cases today extended till further orders the non-bailable warrant issued against the Italian businessman, Mr. Ottavio Quattrocchi, accused in the `Rs. 64 crores Bofors pay-offs' case.

The extension of the NBW by Mr. R.L. Chugh, special judge who has succeeded Mr. Ajit Bharihoke after his transfer, is a sequel to the CBI's submission that the extradition proceedings against Mr. Quattrocchi were pending in Malaysia, and that it would take some more time for the court there to complete them.

The CBI said it was awaiting the outcome of a red corner alert issued through the Interpol to secure the former Bofors president, Mr. Martin Ardbo.

The judge asked the CBI to supply legible copies of certain documents to the Hinduja brothers, Mr. S.P. Hinduja, Mr. G.P. Hinduja and Mr. P.P. Hinduja, and the Bofors company, now renamed as Kartongen Kemi Och Farvaltning AB, by March 30, the next date of hearing and adjourned the proceedings till then.

As the Hinduja brothers' application seeking permission to leave India is coming up for further hearing in the Delhi High Court on March 23, the judge directed that the case records be sent back to the High Court.
