BJP wants CM to quit

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, MARCH. 19.

The BJP members in the Delhi Assembly today demanded resignation of the Chief Minister, Ms. Sheila Dikshit, for facing charges of corruption and her involvement in the wrong doing in the Delhi Jal Board of which she is the Chairperson.

Addressing a press conference here today, an agitated leader of the Opposition, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi, said a meeting of the BJP Legislature Party was held here today where a resolution to this effect was passed. She has no moral right to remain in office as she was faced with several charges of corruption. Ridiculing the Congress(I) for demanding the resignation of the Vajpayee Government, Prof. Mukhi said the Delhi Congress(I) should do some self-introspection before making such a demand.

``The Chief Minister, her sister, Ms. Rama Dhawan and her OSD, Mr.Pawan Khera, are facing corruption charges and a probe by the Lokayukta. Ms. Dikshit has been labeled corrupt by her own party MLAs and senior leaders only some time back. First the Congress(I) leadership should remove Ms. Dikshit and then only talk of ethics and morals,'' he stated.

Prof. Mukhi came down heavily on the Transport Minister, Mr. Parvez Hashmi, for criminal negligence and favouring people for monetary considerations on the CNG bus issue. He charged Mr.Hashmi with using abusive language against the Supreme Court and said the CNG crisis had been deliberately dragged on at the instance of the Minister to benefit a Congress(I) leader and an Italian company close to 10 Janpath. He said there was willful delay on part of Mr. Hashmi to give orders to Nugas Technologies for conversion of CNG buses to oblige his close friend and middleman, Mr. Santosh Bharti.

Prof. Mukhi also claimed that he had in his possession certain records and tapes which could prove that bribes had been paid by certain people in the CNG scam. He alleged that he had evidence to show that some officials of the IIP Dehra Dun, a Central Government controlled agency, had been fixed for securing a certificate for CNG conversion by the private company. He promised to reveal the details at a later stage.
