Commonwealth warns Pak.

LONDON, MARCH 20. The Commonwealth today warned of ``stronger measures'' against the military regime in Pakistan if it failed to make a more ``definite progress'' towards a timetable for restoration of democracy through free and fair elections by October this year.

The Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG), during the two- day deliberations here, called upon the regime to announce the dates for elections to provincial and national assemblies.``If more definite progress regarding a timetable for the restoration of democracy through free and fair elections is not made by October 2001, CMAG would find it necessary to recommend to heads of government that stronger measures be taken by the Commonwealth against the military regime,'' the Commonwealth secretary general, Mr. Don McKinnon, told reporters here after the meeting.
