Pandit's back
THE SELF-PROCLAIMED `son of Hyderabad' is back. Pandit Jasraj is
all set to unleash a raga extravaganza with a performance at
Ravindra Bharathi on Wednesday,
The doyen of north Indian vocals, known not only for the
harmonious blend of pure classicism through musical and rhythmic
ornamentation but also for his `emotional attachment' with
Hyderabad, will perform as part of the special anniversary
concert being organised by the Indian Council for Cultural
Relations on its golden jubilee. He is accompanied by Kala
Ramanath, Vijay Ghate and Pritam Bhattacharjee.
With ICCR, it has to be a stimulating affair. On Tuesday, the
rendezvous was at Lalitha Kala Thoranam, which included `Lion
dances' from Singapore and `Kazaki Kubani' from Russia.
The kung fu practitioners from Singapore who dance to the
accompaniment of large drum cymbals and gong made a rare
exhibition of suppleness, flexibility, fitness, strength and
terrific balance. The Russian show revolved around the famous
river, Kazaki Kubani, and showcased rich folk artistry and dances
of life as celebrated by the Cassocks.
