Unique guide map for 'Greater Hyderabad'
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD, MARCH 20. For the first time, Hyderabad will have a
detailed guide map, drawn to scale, covering over 800 sq km of
area falling under the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad and
nine adjoining municipalities, which together constitute `Greater
Hyderabad'.
The unique thing about the 40 page map being brought out by
MapWorld Technologies, a Geographical Information Systems (GIS)
company, is that it will show landmarks like hotels, apartment
buildings, and lanes, and even petrol pumps!
As of now, such maps are available only for Delhi, Pune and
Ahmedabad, according to Mr. G.S. Kumar, Chairman (who was earlier
with the Survey of India), and Mr. L. Vijayanand Reddy, Managing
Director.
The first edition being brought out on an ``experimental basis''
will be released on March 25. The second edition will be brought
out in a few months time. The company has ambitions of bringing
out digital maps of major cities, subject to certain regulations
governing the land.
The company is organising a GIS event called ``Digital India''
here on July 6 and 7, with focus on `Facilities Management
(Infrastructure)', they said.
