Assembly adjourned twice

PATNA, MARCH 20. Amid unruly scenes, the Bihar Assembly was adjourned twice in the pre-lunch session today with the ruling RJD and its allies and the Opposition NDA members charging each other with institutionalising corruption in the State.

As soon as the House assembled for the day, slogan-shouting MLAs from both sides entered the well waving placards. While the RJD members demanded the Prime Minister's resignation, the NDA asked for the resignation of the charge-sheeted Chief Minister, Mrs. Rabri Devi.

The CPI(ML) members too entered the well demanding action against the RJD MP from Siwan, Shahbuddin, and wanted to know the fate of the adjournment motion moved by the party over the gunbattle between the police and supporters of the MP in which 11 people, including two policemen, lost their lives.

When repeated requests by the Speaker, Mr. Sadanand Singh, to the agitated members to resume their seats fell on deaf ears, he adjourned the House till noon.

Chaotic scenes prevailed when the House reassembled at 12 forcing the Speaker to once again adjourn it.
