It takes less than 10 seconds to renew bus pass with 'PAAS' now
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD, MARCH 22. The APSRTC Hyderabad City region on Thursday
launched a computerised bus pass project, `PAAS (Pass automation
and accountal system)' which significantly reduces the waiting
time for renewal of the pass by a commuter. It takes less than 10
seconds.
The other advantages of the system are that a pass holder can
renew at any of the 16 computerised centres in the twin cities;
he or she need not carry a passport size photo as the colour snap
will be `taken instantly through digital cameras'; and the pass
will be laminated.
Launching the project at Rathfile bus terminus, Secunderabad, the
Minister for Transport, Mr. B.V. Mohan Reddy, said the APSRTC was
issuing 34 different types of bus passes manually (both monthly
and quarterly) to about 3.5 lakh commuters every month in the
twin cities at 17 locations. An amount of Rs. 8.42 crores was
being realised every month on the passes issued.
He said the project was awarded on a franchise basis to Bajrang
Infotech Systems Pvt Ltd, Hyderabad, which has invested more than
Rs. 2 crores for procurement of the hardware and network
components, including 54 computers. According to Mr. Reddy, the
computerised system would help arrest the problem of fake bus
pass IDs and lead to a significant saving of manpower of 100 men
and in rupee terms about Rs. 1 crore.
The Minister described the APSRTC as one of the prestigious
institutions in the country and called upon the management to
computerise the depots with a view to reducing the difficulties
faced by commuters. He said the RTC bus pass centres would be
computerised and interconnected by way of data circuit leased
lines and ISDN lines. The computerisation would be done in a
phased manner first at Secunderabad (Rathfile bus station) and
then within six months at the remaining 16 centres.
Mr. M. Gopal, Director, APSRTC Bhagyanagar region, spoke. Mr.
R.P. Singh, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, presided and
welcomed the gathering. The Executive Director, Hyderabad region,
Mr. Nagabhushan Rao, and the City Regional Manager, Mr. Rameshwar
Rao, were also present.
