Ban dairy imports

Sir, - While countries the world over are concerned about the spreading of foot and mouth disease in cattle and bacterial infection in dairy products, we in India appear to be least worried about these lurking dangers. Our import of milk powders and dairy products continues unabated and these are merely distributed to consumers by importers and traders all over the country. The Government machinery responsible for checking and controlling such imports of food products is not even aware of the danges in importing infected food items. Many advanced countries like the U.S. have already banned the import of meat and other dairy products from European countries. India too should ban the import of all dairy products.
