Kasparov, Gurevich ahead
MONTE CARLO, MARCH 22. After day one of the second World Cup of
rapid chess, which is in progress at Cannes in the south of
France, Garry Kasparov of Russia and Mikhail Gurevich of Belgium
were in the lead in their respective preliminary groups on
Wednesday.
Kasparov conceded a draw to Grischuk and has won three games to
lead Group A by a full point. In Group B, Gurevich, former
trainer of Anand and Kasparov, leads with three points from four
games.
The results:
Third round: Group A: J. Lautier bt B. Gulko; Judit Polgar bt P.
Svidler; A. Grischuk lost to E. Bareev; C. Bauer lost to G.
Kasparov. Group B: R. Kasimdzhanov drew with M. Adams; V.
Tkachiev drew with M. Gurevich; E. Bacrot drew with Ye
Jiangchuan; A. Morozevich bt H. Hamdouchi.
Fourth round: Group A: G. Kasparov bt J. Lautier; E. Bareev drew
with P. Svidler; A. Grischuk bt C. Bauer; B. Gulko lost to Judit
Polgar. Group B: M. Gurevich bt R. Kasimdzhanov; M. Adams drew
with A. Morozevich; E. Bacrot bt V. Tkachiev; Ye Jiangchuan lost
to H. Hamdouchi.
