Women stage dharna against opening of bars

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, MARCH 28. Members of several women's organisations, on Wednesday, staged a dharna before the Hyderabad District Collectorate against the Government's decision to permit bars with effect from April 1.

Prominent among those who participated in the agitation were active social worker, Mrs. Malladi Subbamma, State general secretaries of the A.P. Mahila Samakhya, Mrs. P. Prem Pavani and Mrs. Pasya Padma, State secretary of the All-India Democratic Women's Association, Mrs. Punyawathi, State president of the Progressive Organisation of Women, Mrs. Sandhya and the city convener of the All-India Mahila Samskritika Sangham, Mrs. Swaroopa Rani.

Mrs. Subbamma said the Government should not have given permission to open bars after making several promises to the people. The agitators felt that it was unfair that the Government had gone back on its promise.

They submitted a memorandum to the Collector Mr. Rajeshwar Tewari, seeking reversal of the decision. He promised to forward their representation to the Government.
