Vittal submits report on defence deals

NEW DELHI, MARCH 31.

The Central Vigilance Commissioner, Mr. N. Vittal, today submitted the final report on defence deals since April 1989, to the Defence Minister, Mr. Jaswant Singh.

The CVC was directed by the former Defence Minister, Mr. George Fernandes, to examine all major defence contracts since the ban on middlemen in 1989, an official statement said.

He was also asked to examine specific allegations made in Parliament relating to visits made by Defence officials in connection with military deals and allegations regarding purchase of spares for submarines and ships.
