BANGALORE, MARCH 31. The Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, Mr. V. Sreenivas Prasad, on Friday served a legal notice on the news portal, tehelka.com, charging it with tarnishing his image.

Through the legal notice served on the Tehelka's executive producer, Mr. Tarun Tejpal, and three others, Mr. Prasad's advocate has asked the portal to apologise for publishing ``defamatory articles'' about the Union Minister, within seven days from the receipt of the notice. ``Failing which, we have got instructions from our client to prosecute you in a competent jurisdictional criminal court in Bangalore and claim damages of Rs. 5 crores in the civil court here,'' Mr. Prasad's advocates said in the notice.

Notices have also been served on Mr. Aniruddha Bahal and Mr. Minty Kunvar Tejpal, executive producers, and Mr. Samuel Mathew, reporter.

It has been said in the notice that the charges made against Mr. Prasad in page numbers 103 and 104 of the tehelka.com publication were false.
