Kidnap mystery continues
By Our Staff Reporter
CHENNAI, MARCH 31. The kidnapping case of a three-year-old boy
from Sembium ten days ago continues to be a big challenge for the
city police.
Police are using all their ingenuity to track down Rajesh Khanna
who allegedly walked away on March 20 with the son of a fast food
owner at Sembium where he had been employed. They are being
helped by the Telephone Department personnel in tracing the
address of the calls made by the accused.
They came to know that he had escaped from Aruppukottai after
stabbing a villager before taking the job at Sembium. He had
stabbed a villager who had questioned his relationship with the
widow of an army personnel in a local panchayat meeting.
Investigation revealed that Rajesh Khanna had gained employment
at the fast-food outlet with a false name and fictitious address.
The first breakthrough was getting the kidnapper's photograph in
an otherwise baffling case. The accused had been photographed by
one of the customers, by chance, after he was impressed with the
food served in the hotel. Police traced the customer and
retrieved the photograph.
The preliminary probe revealed that Rajesh Khanna was wanted by
the Tirupathi and Madurai police for cheating and marrying a
woman at each place and then attacking them or their kin.
Meanwhile, police have printed several pamphlets with the
photographs of the three-year-old boy Kiran Kumar and the
accused. These pamphlets have been posted at railway terminals,
bus-stands and other important junctions.
