No move to shift HPS principal, says Education Minister

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, MARCH 30. The School Education Minister, Mr. K. Srihari, told the Assembly on Friday that the principal of the Hyderabad Public School (HPS), Begumpet, Maj. Gen. K.N. Sardhana, will not be shifted.

Responding to the issue raised by Mr. Asaduddin Owaisi (MIM), the Minister also said the Board of Governors meeting, which was scheduled today, had been postponed.

Mr. Owaisi, who is also an alumnus of the HPS, in a special mention, said it was after a long gap and turbulent period that an efficient person had taken over as the principal. But, a section of the Board of Governors was out to remove him. Students boycott classes

Earlier in the day, students boycotted classes denouncing the move.

According to a statement issued by the HPS Teachers and Staff Union, the students, holding placards in support of the principal, wanted to know why the Board of Governors were so eager to remove him despite his good track record. The principal is said to have initiated several steps that had set right the system in the school, apart from winning the hearts of both the students and the staff.

Interestingly, hundreds of parents also gathered at the school to lend their support to the principal as the news trickled in that the Board of Governors were meeting on Friday to take a final decision on the issue. ``This is an indication of the popularity of the principal and how everybody wants him to continue,'' pointed out a teacher.

According to teachers, the scheduled meeting of the Board of Governors was cancelled. The Minister for School Education, Mr. K. Srihari, had assured to look into the matter when the MIM MLA, Mr. Asaduddin Owaisi raised the ongoing controversy in the Assembly. However, teachers fear that the Board of Governors might adopt some other methods to remove the principal and appealed to the Government to ensure that the principal was allowed to continue in his office.
