Fine knock by Saeed Anwar
SHARJAH, APRIL 8. Pakistan, propelled by a 90 from opener Saeed
Anwar reached 255 for nine in the allotted 50 overs against Sri
Lanka in the opening encounter of the Sharjah Cup tourney here on
Sunday.
Pakistan had a brilliant start with openers Anwar and Afridi. But
the swashbuckling Afridi got out to the bowling of Ganegama for
21.
Pakistan lost immediately Imran Farhat for six but Inzamam and
Anwar steadied the Pakistani innings. However, Inzamam was
brilliantly caught by Muralitharan off Arnold.
A moderate 37 by Younis Khan and Shoaib Malik's 24 added
respectability to the Pakistan scorecard. But the Sri Lankan
bowlers took wickets at regular intervals and checked the scoring
rate of Pakistan.
Sri Lanka 82 for 1
SHARJAH, APRIL 8. Sri Lanka, chasing a victory target of 256, has
made 82 for one after 17 overs, against Pakistan in the inaugural
match of the triangular series. Romesh Kaluwitharana (50) and
Marvan Atapattu (26) were at the crease. Captain Sanath
Jayasuriya was dismissed second ball without scoring, by Waqar
Younis.
