Talks on Karunakaran impasse today

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, APRIL. 14. The Congress today gained more time in sorting out the issues concerning the crisis in Kerala with the two AICC emissaries stating here they would discuss the matter with Congress president, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, tomorrow.

Soon after a meeting with the Congress president this evening, the two emissaries - Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad and Mr. Moti Lal Vora - told correspondents outside 10, Janpath residence of Mrs. Gandhi that the matter did not come up for discussion today.

Mr. Azad and Mr. Vora maintained that their meeting with the Congress chief was in connection with other party work and that the Kerala issue would be taken up tomorrow.

Both these leaders who visited Thiruvananthapuram on Friday and discussed with Mr. K. Karunakaran and Mr. A.K. Antony said a final decision would be announced by the party high command today.

The party high command and the emissaries, it is understood, were reasonably satisfied and noticed visible improvement in the situation in the State after the visit by two senior party leaders. It also noted with satisfaction the statement of its senior leader, Mr. Karunakaran, that the current crisis in the party would not cast a shadow on the prospects of the United Democratic Front in the polls.
