'Cong. demand is double standard'
By Our Staff Reporter
MADURAI, APRIL 14. The Janata Party president, Dr. Subramanian
Swamy, has called the Congress' demand that the Prime Minister,
Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee, rescind his direction to the CBI to
investigate the charges made by Dr. Swamy against the Congress
president, Ms. Sonia Gandhi, as `ludicrous double standard'. In a
press statement here today, Dr. Swamy said that instead, Ms.
Gandhi should welcome a probe if she had nothing to hide and step
down as Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. He claimed that
his `documented charges' had prima facie validity and therefore
if the Government failed to act, he could always approach the
court though the public interest litigation route.
