Senior MLA denied Bhavani seat, leaves TMC

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, APRIL 14. Immediately after the AIADMK released the final list of constituencies for the TMC-Congress combine today, a senior TMC MLA, Mr. S.N. Balasubramaniam, who was deprived of his Bhavani constituency, joined the former Union Minister, Mr.P. Chidambaram's TMC-Democratic Forum.

In a statement, Mr. Balasubramaniam said he would campaign against the AIADMK front in the Assembly election and ensure the continuance of Karuanidhi regime.

He alleged that the AIADMK general secretary, Ms. Jayalalitha's ``unilateral announcement of constituencies'' for her allies showed that she had not ``changed her style of functioning'' and could not provide good governance.

Several TMC cadres from Bhavani had also joined the TMC- Democratic Forum, he said.

Mr. Balasubramaniam claimed that the DMK, which allotted the Bhavani constituency to the New Justice Party, had agreed to consider his plea for the seat. ``Irrespective of whether I am offered a seat or not, I will remain in the forum'' he said.

After the announcement of the list, two other MLAs - Mr.M. Appavoo and Mrs.A.S. Ponnammal- who were camping here rushed back to their constituencies to consult their ``supporters'' and decide whether they should contest as Independents.

Office-bearers quit in Tirunelveli

Our Tirunelveli Staff Reporter reports:

The resentment among the TMC cadres over the allotment of just a single seat to the TMC in Tirunelveli district in the AIADMK front, came into the open, with a few office-bearers quitting the party.

Messrs I. Jawahar Raj, a State Committee member, K. Selvaraj, vice-president of the Tirunelveli East district unit, S. Vanamamalai, vice-president of the Tirunelveli central

district unit, along with many workers have decided to join the TMC Democratic Forum.

In a statement here on Saturday, they alleged that some second rank leaders the TMC chief misguided Mr.Moopanar, and forced him to align with the AIADMK, for their selfish ends.

The decision to join the AIADMK front will ruin not only the TMC, but also the Congress in the State. The failure to allot seats even to sitting MLAs in the district led to resentment among the cadres.

They also criticised the TMC leadership for ignoring the right advice tendered by Mr. Chidambaram on the alliance issue.
