Summer's the time for fun

SO KIDS, have you got a list of all the things you want to do this summer and no, we don't mean TROUBLE! Certainly you don't want anonymous callers penning nasty notes to your lockers: ``I know what you did last summer.''

No sweat! There are a lot of things you can do this summer, without sweating. Summer camps galore, take your pick. If you are digitally inclined, a computer course will be the right thing to do. Maars Software International (4403414), Adyar has courses for children above 13 years, and promise to teach internet and e- commerce concepts, web designing, HTML and graphics. Freak out with the mouse and also have a go at bowling, `go karting' and other fun trips. There are prizes for the winners of the web design competition as well.

At IT Kids (6416038) it is e-Olympic time. Commencing this April, IT Kids has different `age appropriate' camps which `will enable a child to learn the basics of a personal computer, sending e- mail, browsing the net and even creating and editing music. In addition, there is animation, `travellers multimedia' and the cyber camp. The key attraction is however the virtual Olympiad- participate in 100 m dash, long jump, hurdles, hammer throws, the works.

For protective moms, who would rather not let their wards out of their sight, Marshals' Super Soft (8514580), Egmore, offers vacation courses for both mothers and children. The course duration is nine weeks, two hours each day and you get to learn the basics of MS Office and the net.

A little deviation, but we're still with the comps. The Institute of Graphic Design, Mylapore(4671865) will commence classes in the `seven wonders' of design: visual, web, jewellery, fashion, graphics, digital and interiors. Of course, you will have to be in seventh standard and `have a little interest' in designing. Special scholarships to those who excel.

AVM's Mangaiyar Choice Club (4942529) is for kids who think computers are school-stuff. They will conduct a summer camp for children at Sankara Hall, Alwarpet between April 26 to May 6 and what is the agenda? Arts, crafts, fun, games, general knowledge and `creating eagerness!' More creativity at the Joy Summer Camp, at the SVM Matric, and Malathy Srinivasan Matric schools, Royapettah, in similar subjects (8419845).

Equally stressing the fun aspect are the ladies with the Anna Nagar All Block Ladies Association (6262477). Their five day camp which will begin on April 20, promises to teach children to think and act creatively: ``all kinds of craft work, chess, simple music, moral stories and values''.

On the other hand, if you are the Jungle Book lover, a wannabe Mowgli, then, do it under adult guidance. Outward Bound (4468022), will organise two summer camps near Mamallapuram and in the tropical jungle of the Western ghats. The camps are of six-day duration each and will be conducted in batches over the next two months.

The basic stuff of adventure camps is all assured: rock climbing, rapelling, sea expedition and fishing, rope course, horse riding, bicycling expedition, rope course and survival games. Early Bird discounts of 25 per cent are offered, so catch on, go there, get the worm.

More thrills with Eventful Inc.'s (8592877) Adventure camp at Pegasus Institute near Bangalore- for people who just want to get away from Chennai. A little on the higher side, but if you can afford it, you get the works, according to Major A.K.Chandok. Students between 10 and 16 are eligible to sign up. Hey, and yes you have to sign an indemnity bond for the child too.

There is also a way you can keep checking and updating information about summer camps: log on to www.2clicks2find.com The site, hosted by Brij Datalink (4987625), with a list of everything.
