M.P. Stress on self-employment

By Our Staff Correspondent

BHOPAL, APRIL, 14.The Madhya Pradesh Government is at present laying greater emphasis on creating avenues for self-employment rather than enduring to act as a leading agency for providing jobs to the unemployed.

The Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr. Digvijay Singh, has said there is a need to augment self-employment avenues in view of shrinking job opportunities. He was speaking after formally launching new courses in Information Technology and laying the foundation stone of the building of Entrepreneurship Development Centre here on Thursday.

The Chief Minister said that shrinking employment opportunities is the biggest challenge before the country. The job opportunities in the Government as well as industries are decreasing, he said and added that in such a situation, it is necessary to create opportunities of self-employment. For this purpose, it is necessary to target the youth and provide proper guidance and training for self-employment avenues with low investment. Training in quality and marketing of products should also be given to them, he added.

The Chief Minister said there is wide scope for self- employment in Information Technology and bio-diversity sectors. Efforts have been made to provide IT-enabled services to the youth and this would help them get jobs after only a few months training. He said the Entrepreneurship Development Centre should play an important role in this direction.

The State Government has constituted the Bio-diversity Board and special attention is being paid to initiate work in the biotechnology sphere, Mr. Singh added. He said considerable attention is also being paid to develop the concept of micro- credit in the State and went on to inform that at present, 35000 self-help groups are functioning in the State.
