'Withdrawal of resignation not now'
By Our Special Correspondent
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, APRIL 16. The senior Congress leader, Mr. K.
Karunakaran, today indicated that he would defer a decision on
withdrawing his resignation as a permanent invitee of the
Congress Working Committee until the issues he had raised were
fully resolved and until he gave a personal explanation to the
Congress president, Ms. Sonia Gandhi, regarding the circumstances
which led to his strong action.
Addressing a press conference here today, Mr. Karunakaran said he
had resigned his post under peculiar circumstances when he felt
that his supporters were being ignored. He said that the AICC
emissaries, Mr. Motilal Vohra and Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad, had
conveyed the high command's desire to ensure his participation in
the party's affairs.
Mr. Karunakaran once again asserted that he had always stood with
the party and that he would continue to be a loyal partyworker.
When he was repeatedly asked why he was deferring his decision to
withdraw his resignation, Mr. Karunakaran maintained that the
question of withdrawal arose only when some of the issues he had
raised were fully solved.
In reply to another question, he said it was not possible for any
Congress worker to ignore the directions of the party leadership.
Mr. Karunakaran said he was willing to campaign for the Congress
in other States as well, as requested by Mr. Vohra. Asked when he
was going to New Delhi, he indicated that there was no hurry in
doing so.
