More relief for Haryana farmers
By Our Special Correspondent
CHANDIGARH, APRIL 16. The Haryana Cabinet decided to raise the
quantum of relief to be given to farmers for the crops damaged
during the recent hailstorm in the State, on Saturday.
The Chief Minister, Mr. Om Prakash Chautala, told mediapersons
that this decision had been taken in view of the last wishes of
his father who was greatly concerned over the relief to be given
to the victims of the hailstorm.
The recovery of electricity arrears, loans and abiana had already
been postponed.
The Chief Minister said that the Government had also decided to
grant remission of some period to these serving in the State
prisons in view of Ch. Devi Lal's crusade to bring improvement in
the jails. Convicts who have been sentenced for a period
exceeding 10 years would be given a remission of three months,
while those sentenced between two and 10 years would be given two
months remission.
