More relief for Haryana farmers

CHANDIGARH, APRIL 16. The Haryana Cabinet decided to raise the quantum of relief to be given to farmers for the crops damaged during the recent hailstorm in the State, on Saturday.

The Chief Minister, Mr. Om Prakash Chautala, told mediapersons that this decision had been taken in view of the last wishes of his father who was greatly concerned over the relief to be given to the victims of the hailstorm.

The recovery of electricity arrears, loans and abiana had already been postponed.

The Chief Minister said that the Government had also decided to grant remission of some period to these serving in the State prisons in view of Ch. Devi Lal's crusade to bring improvement in the jails. Convicts who have been sentenced for a period exceeding 10 years would be given a remission of three months, while those sentenced between two and 10 years would be given two months remission.
