Uncertainty haunts Parliament
After the partial disruption of Parliament
today - question hour was allowed to proceed smoothly - there is
continued uncertainty not only in relation to normal functioning
of Parliament for the rest of the budget session, but also on the
length of the session. It seems that the Rashtriya Janata Dal has
decided to raise the Tehelka issue strongly tomorrow and force
yet another adjournment.
Mamata insulted me: Panja
A weeping Mr. Ajit Panja, Trinamool Congress
MP and chairman, today turned against the party supremo, Ms.
Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of being a dictator and humiliating
him, but stopped short of submitting his resignation.
Cong. finds itself isolated
The Congress found itself isolated and out
on a limb in both houses of Parliament, with the Left and the SP
preferring to keep their distance. The Congress and the RJD alone
had to kick up a row on the demand for a joint parliamentary
probe(JPC) into the Tehelka episode, besides setting in motion
the legal process against those found culpable in the expose.
Hurriyat invited, but undecided
The All-Party Hurriyat Conference today
received a formal invitation from the Centre for dialogue on the
Kashmir issue but could not firm up its response despite six
hours of deliberations by its executive council.
Meghalaya CM, BSF deny intrusion
The Meghalaya Chief Minister, Mr. E.K.
Mawlong, today said that he had no information that Pyrdiwah
village in the East Khasi Hills district was occupied by the
Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) while the Border Security Force

Riot at Hindu wedding in UK
Two pubs and an Asian take away outfit were
wrecked and a chemist's shop was looted following a clash between
a group of white men and guests at a Hindu wedding in Bradford,
about 120 kms from here, police said.
Tanzania backs India for U.N. seat
Tanzanian support to India's candidature for
a permanent seat on the United Nations' Security Council was
appreciated by the Lok Sabha Speaker, Mr. G.M.C. Balayogi, when
an 8-member Tanzanian parliamentary delegation led by the
Tanzanian Speaker, Mr. Pius Msekwa, called on him today. Later
Mr. Balayogi hosted a dinner for the delegation.
