BJP releases Assam list

NEW DELHI, APRIL 18. The Bharatiya Janata Party today released a
list of 42 candidates for the Assembly elections in Assam. Under
an agreement with the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) it will be
contesting 44 seats in all, but in 10 of these there could be
``friendly contests'' with the AGP. All the five sitting MLAs of
the party have been accommodated - Mr. Sambhu Singh (Ratabari
constituency), Dr. Sukhendu Sekhar (Patharkandi), Mr. Misson
Ranjan Das (Karimganj North), Mr. Bimalangshu Roy ( Silchar) and
Mr. Kali Ranjan Deb (Katighara). Besides, several state leaders
have been given tickets. There is only one Muslim candidate and a
woman candidate.
