Govt. cautions job aspirants in IT sector
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, APRIL 18. The Government today asked job aspirants in
the IT sector to verify the DOEACC certification of computer
training institutes before joining courses to avoid
disappointment after completion.
Although there is no regulation by the All India Council for
Technical Education (AICTE) on opening of computer training
centers in the non-formal sector, the Government has an
alternative in the form of a scheme known as the Department of
Electronics-Accreditation of Computer Courses (DOEACC) in order
to standardise and improve the quality of computer education.
Institutions or organisations in the non-formal sector meeting
certain norms and criteria, in terms of faculty, software and
hardware, are given the DOEACC accreditation at their request.
Such institutes are monitored for their performance, including
the issue of false advertisements. Wherever an institution is
found not conforming to the guidelines, the accreditation is
withdrawn, said the Minister of Information Technology, Mr.
Pramod Mahajan, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha. The Minister
was responding to a query by Mr. P. Elangovan, who wanted to know
the steps taken by the Government to curb the mushrooming of IT
training centers, which ``almost cheat the public with false
propaganda.
Although the loss of revenue to the Government due to software
piracy is negligible, several steps have been taken to protect
the income of legitimate producers of software.
Among the measures taken are covering intellectual property
rights of software under the Copyright law whose violation
attracts both fine and imprisonment, notifying the Information
Technology Act 2000.
