Three child workers buried alive

ANANTAPUR, APRIL 18. Three child labourers, working in a white
shale mine, were buried alive in a landslide at Kristapadu
village of Pedda Vadugur mandal in Anantapur district on
Wednesday. Four other child workers were injured, one of them
seriously, in the mishap.
According to the Pedda Vadugur police, seven workers of
Munnakunta village started digging in the mine for white shale
when a large portion of soil slid on them over their heads
burying three of them alive and injuring the remaining four.
The landslide had occurred due to rain in the area for the last
couple of days.
The dead persons have been identified as Penna Obulesu (16),
Kudumula Vijayalaxmi (16) and Agraharam Lalithamma (13). The
injured have been admitted to Guntakal Government Hospital, where
the condition of one of them is stated to be serious.
Child labourers are major workforce in the limestone, napa slabs
and other mines in the area.
