Cyber crime police station mooted

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, APRIL 18. The Director-General of Police (CoD), Mr. V.V. Bhaskar, has said that the CoD will make a specific proposal to the State Government to establish an exclusive cyber crime police station in the CoD to deal with cyber crime.

He made this announcement at a two-day training programme on Cyber Crime Investigation, organised jointly by the CoD and the CBI for police officers from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Pondichery, which concluded here on Wednesday.

Mr. Bhaskar said that the cyber crime police station could function as a nodal agency to receive all complaints relating to cyber crime, and investigate them with the help of a multi- disciplinary group comprising experts drawn from software companies and academic institutions.

He said a specific proposal in this regard would be sent for the State Government's consideration soon.

At the workshop, the CBI officials and experts in the field of cyber laws interacted with the investigators. The workshop was organised to equip police investigators with the latest techniques in cyber crime investigation, and to promote co- operation among investigators from the State and Central agencies, a press release from the CoD said.

The workshop was inaugurated by the Additional Chief Secretary to the State Government, Dr. A. Ravindra, on Tuesday, and the Director-General and Inspector-General of Police, Dr. K. Sreenivasan, was the chief guest at the valedictory function.

Incidentally, Karnataka was the first State in the nation to establish an exclusive Cyber Crime Cell in the CoD in 1999.
